The S.P.A.R.K. Founder,
Rachel Rosen, came up with the idea for SPARK 4 Community on an index card back in 2016 while she and her wife were on vacation. Being in an interracial lesbian relationship, they talked about cultural differences all the time.
After attending a family function, Rachel was looking for games and resources that help facilitate inclusive conversations for diverse groups, and she couldn’t find anything. So, in creating the original index-card game, Rachel’s intention was to create a way to spark inclusive conversations, break down barriers, and break through to a better tomorrow. One conversation at a time.
The more she talked about it, the more Rachel realized that other people were craving the kind of connections she was. So, the first video Rachel ever recorded was for a “Cards for Humanity” Kickstarter campaign. A few months later, they raised $4,320, thanks to a group of 80 backers.
Later that year, they released our first 200 card decks and had a launch party. Everyone wanted to know what was next. “What WAS next?!”, they asked.
